P3P Dead

Two years ago I put a fair amount of effort into adding P3P standards to a corporate website. In the process, I became aware of the numerous privacy and other issues that we take for granted as web developers and designers. The P3P standard -- forever in my mind associated with the AT&T "Privacy Bird", an icon that would indicate the privacy level of a webpage -- codified the privacy policies of a site, and allowed for automatic actions to be taken based upon browser settings. Best of all, it exposed these issues for website builders. It looks like it's dead for now. Speaking both as a citizen and a website worker, this is one standard that will be missed.
